Configuring IMPAX for clinicians

IMPAX for Clinicians is intended for use by or on the order of, a physician or healthcare professional to access medical images and other evidence documents to provide care to patients. Using a Clinician license or an Enterprise license gives access to the features of IMPAX for Clinicians.

When configuring the IMPAX Client for use by clinicians, the following tasks are often required.

1. Create roles for clinicians

Creating a role simplifies the task of providing all users of the Clinician license or Enterprise license with the features they need. As a shortcut, use the Clinician roles in the default role hierarchy shipped with IMPAX. These roles, such as ICU, Paediatrics, and Oncology, have default permissions and preferences that make configuration faster.

2. Add users to these roles

Clinicians should be placed in the role matching their most common job as their primary role. If some clinicians cover different departments periodically, you can place them into these specialty roles as their secondary roles.

3. Assign the Clinician license or Enterprise license to the clinician roles

Licenses are assigned to roles; any users belonging to those roles can use those licenses. Assign a Clinician license or Enterprise license to the clinician roles, and ensure that this is the default license for those roles.

4. Modify the permissions for the clinician roles

The set of default roles in IMPAX also has default permissions appropriate to those roles. You can create different permissions, if required, for your specific workflows. Or, you can edit the permissions shipped with IMPAX. Refer to Permissions: Workflow applications.

5. Add common tools to the customizable area of the top toolbar or to the context toolbar

Some of the common tools required for clinicians are found in the top toolbar, but can you add others, such as Cine Viewer, Composite Layout Chooser, and Select Screen Format to the top or context (right-click) toolbars.

6. Configure the Text area for the clinicians

The Text area has three bars that can be expanded to show information: Order, Study, and Report. The position of these bars is remembered for new and for dictated studies. Of particular importance to clinicians is the report and its key images, which are found under the Report bar. To make them quickly available, impersonate the clinician roles, open a study with an Approved status in the Text area, and fully expand the Report bar.

You can also hide the Study List to maximize the area for the report and key images.

7. Configure the monitors

Normally, most clinicians use a single, color monitor, although some clinicians may have a diagnostic monitor as well. In the Configure area - Stations section, you can group the clinician stations based on their monitor configuration, for example, then configure them all at once. Refer to Determining how stations should be organized.
