Impersonating a user or role

When authenticating with a smart card, impersonation is not available.

In the Configure area - Preferences or Users and Roles section, you can impersonate a user or role. While impersonating a role or user, you retain your permissions and license, but have that role or user's preferences. For example, your permissions will give you access to the Customize dialog in the Image area, but you may not see the Customize button in the toolbars because the user or role you are impersonating does not have it. (In this case, you could access the Customize dialog with the F12 keyboard shortcut.)

Changes that you make to preferences in the List area, Text area, or Image area are applied to the role or user you are impersonating. For example, you can impersonate the Radiology role, then define the default worklists for that role or configure the toolbars used for each modality type. Any new users you create in that role inherit the preferences set through impersonation. Existing users, however, will not inherit these preferences unless you overwrite their custom preferences. And, you must wait until a new user logs in for the first time before impersonating them. The initial login is required to validate the user account.

To impersonate a user or role

  1. From the Configure drawer menu Configure drawer menu, select Users and Roles.

    or

From the Configure drawer menu Configure drawer menu, select Preferences.

  2. In the navigation pane, right-click a role or user and select Impersonate.

Your user ID indicates the name of the role or user that you are impersonating. The Logout button is replaced by a Done button.

  3. Define any preferences required: place worklists in the List area, add Image area tools, define modality preferences, and so on.

If configuring search criteria, you must click Search for the search criteria to persist.

  4. When you are finished defining preferences, click Done.

The preferences for the role or user are saved. Impersonation preferences are write-protected, preventing users who may be logged in while you are impersonating them from accidentally overwriting your changes.
