IMPAX 6.5.1 Client Knowledge Base: Extended > Reading studies > Modifying series display > Ordering series > Setting hanging protocols
The order that a modality generates series within an exam may not match the order a radiologist prefers to view them. To override the modality ordering, you can configure hanging protocols by using the Hanging Protocol tab of the Customize dialog.
A series that satisfies a hanging protocol rule is moved ahead of a series that does not satisfy that rule. (When multiple series satisfy a given rule, modality ordering is used for them.) While the hanging protocol determines the order of the series in a study, the number of series displayed on a screen at any given time is determined by the current screen format and series view mode.
To configure hanging protocols
If setting preferences for other users, impersonate the user or role.
Hanging protocols created at the role level can be edited or removed only when impersonating that role. They are visible to but not editable by any lower-level users or roles. They are not visible to any higher-level roles. Hanging protocols created at the user level can be viewed, edited, or removed only by the user who created them; they are not visible to higher-level roles.
Press F12 or, from the Image area top toolbar, click Customize. ![]()
In the Customize dialog, switch to the Hanging Protocol tab.
Modify the available hanging protocols as required:
To add a hanging protocol, click New and define the hanging protocol.
To create a hanging protocol based on an existing one, select it in the list and click Copy. Then select the copy in the list, click Edit, and change the definition as required.
To edit the definition of an existing hanging protocol, select it in the list, click Edit, and change its definition as required.
To delete an existing hanging protocol, select it in the list and click Remove.
To strictly apply image hanging protocols, under Screen Utilization, select the Strict Hanging Protocols checkbox.
With a strict CR image hanging protocol, for example, if the second display panel is to contain the "lateral" view and no such image exists in the study, that panel is presented empty. If the hanging protocol was not strict, the second panel would contain the next available image in the protocol rather than being presented empty.
![]() | Note: Strict hanging protocols only apply to CR images. |
To apply all hanging protocols such that the study displayed in the last frame maintains its position while you navigate through the other studies, select the Last Study Location Pinned checkbox.
For example, if reviewing five studies while using a screen format that displays two or more studies at once or the Span One Screen study view mode, the last study in that list (#5) is fixed in the final display frame or monitor.
To save the changes and close the Customize dialog, click OK.
![]() | Note: Hanging protocols are merged preferences, meaning that an individual user inherits hanging protocols configurations from all the roles he or she belongs to, along with any personal preferences. Refer to Preferences: Key concepts and Preferences: Inheritance overview. |
