Preferences: Inheritance overview

The inheritance of preferences by roles and users in the hierarchy can be merged or non-merged. The following tables outlines which types of preferences are merged or non-merged so you can determine where to set these preferences in your hierarchy of roles and users.

There are two special categories of merged preferences: wizards and hanging protocols. When a user opens the Customize window, IMPAX 6.5.1 displays wizards and hanging protocols for the user and for all inherited roles. All wizards and hanging protocols are displayed even if multiple wizards and hanging protocols have the same name.

Note:

Note:

A user role can enable or disable wizards that are inherited from a parent role.

Merged preferences

CategoryTypeDescription
ToolbarsMerged by role, modality, and body partThe buttons in the top toolbar and context toolbar can be customized for each modality and body part. For each modality and body part, IMPAX first looks for user settings. If they do not exist, the toolbar settings from an inherited role are used.
Screen Formats and Display SettingsMerged by role, modality, and body partThe list of screen formats and display settings can be customized for each modality and body part (for example, Study View Mode, Series View Mode, and Window Level Default Scope). For each modality and body part, IMPAX first looks for user settings. If they do not exist, the screen format and display settings from an inherited role are used.
Modality settingsMerged by role, modality, and body partThe default tool, Window Level, and calibration settings can be customized for each modality and body part. For each modality and body part, IMPAX first looks for user settings. If they do not exist, the screen format and display settings from an inherited role are used.
Cine view settingsMerged by role, modality, and body partThe Cine Viewer settings can be customized for each modality and body part. For each modality and body part, IMPAX first looks for user settings. If they do not exist, the screen format and display settings from an inherited role are used.
WizardsMerged by roleWizards for the user and for all inherited roles are displayed in the Customize dialog. All wizards are displayed even if multiple wizards have the same name. All automatically triggered wizards (for example, Patient Viewed trigger) will run. You can enable or disable wizards from an inherited role.
Hanging protocolsMerged by roleHanging protocols for the user and for all inherited roles are displayed in the Customize dialog. All wizards are displayed even if multiple wizards have the same name. If two automatic hanging protocols have the same triggers (for example, modality and body part) the inherited role hanging protocol takes precedence over the user hanging protocol.
Display AnnotationsMerged by role and modalityThe list of default annotations can be customized for each modality. Default annotations for the user and all inherited roles are displayed in the list. The user annotations and the inherited role annotations are separated by a dashed line.
