IMPAX 6.5.1 Client Knowledge Base: Extended > Reading studies > Applying Image area tools
Through the Customize dialog, you can set one tool per modality (and body part, optionally) as the default tool. This tool is activated when first viewing and when redisplaying study images from that modality.
Certain tools are also defined as base tools. When you activate a base tool, switch to another tool, then deactivate that tool (by right-clicking), the base tool gets reactivated automatically. The following tools are defined as base tools:

The base tool setting applies only to the current patient and is not saved for future sessions. You cannot define default base tools, nor can you set any tools other than the eight listed above as base tools.
To set a session base tool
Click the button representing the tool to set as the base tool.
The tool button is highlighted.
Activate another tool (one not defined as a base tool).
This tool button is highlighted as well. This tool is active, and you can apply it to the current study.
When done using this tool, right-click to deactivate it.
The base tool selected in step 1 is automatically activated and can be applied to the current study.
