IMPAX 6.5.1 Server Knowledge Base home > Maintaining IMPAX Server: Managing studies > Study Manager
Splitting a study means breaking a single study into multiple studies for one patient. This could be required, for example, if three studies were ordered but only one study was performed at the modality. The Split feature is enabled only if the selected study is not archived.
Scout images can be referenced by one or more images or series in a study. If a study is split into multiple studies, IMPAX automatically detects which images reference each scout image—for example, you want to split a study into three studies (study_1, study_2, and study_3) and the original study has scout images associated with it. If a particular scout image is referenced by one or more images or series in study_1 and study_3, IMPAX automatically associates the scout image to both of those studies.

To split a study
On the Daily tab, click Study Manager.![]()
From the results list, select the study to split.
The study to split must be in cache in the cluster. Studies in cache are indicated with C or L in the Location column of the Study Manager search results. The study should not have been archived.
Click Split. ![]()
To split the study further, select the objects that you want to split and
click Split again.
The study is divided into multiple studies for this patient. The information is propagated to all DICOM entities that are synchronized within the IMPAX cluster. It is not propagated to other linked clusters.
![]() | Note: You can also split studies through the IMPAX Client interface. The Client feature is called Segment. Refer to “Segmenting one study into multiple studies” (topic number 8363) in the IMPAX 6.5.1 Client Knowledge Base: Extended. |
