Series linking: Overview

The IMPAX Client supports four linking modes for navigating series together effectively.

Auto Link mode

In Auto Link mode, IMPAX automatically links all coplanar series within a single study. It links the series by the table position of the patient, which is recorded with the images. As a result, you can navigate the coplanar series together, to get all the available image details about a particular region at one time. For more information on Auto Link mode, refer to Linking series automatically.

Note:

Note:

For some studies, it is helpful to treat off-axis series as coplanar, so they are linked. You can specify the acceptable allowance for linking off-axis series. Refer to Specifying the allowance for linking off-axis series for more information.

Linking constraints

For series to be linked in Auto Link mode, the following conditions must be satisfied:

  • Series must be from the same study.

  • Series must be considered coplanar. Generally they must be of the same view: axial series linked with axials, sagittals with sagittals, and coronals with coronals.

  • Series must be within the specified acceptable allowance for linking off-axis series.

  • Series must have the same frame of reference. Series with a different frame of reference can be linked manually. Refer to Adding a series with a different frame of reference to an auto link group.

  • Series must be volumetric. Non-volumetric series cannot be linked in Auto Link mode.

Manual Link mode

In Manual Link mode, no series are linked automatically. You select the series you want to link within a study. Refer to Linking series manually for more information.

Linking constraints

For series to be linked in Manual Link mode, the following conditions must be satisfied:

  • Series must be from the same study.

  • Series must be within 45° of the active series. Generally they must be of the same view: axial series linked with axials, sagittals with sagittals, and coronals with coronals.

  • Volumetric series may be linked only to other volumetric series.

  • Non-volumetric series may be linked only to other non-volumetric series.

Navigating All mode

In Navigate All mode, you can scroll through all of the series in a study at the same time to get a quick impression of the study. Refer to Linking all series for more information.

Linking constraint

For series to be linked in Navigate all mode, the series must be from the same study.

Cross-study Link mode

When Cross-study linking is activated, you can compare coplanar series from two or more different studies. This is particularly helpful to determine how the condition of a patient has changed over time. Refer to Linking series from different studies for more information.

Linking constraints

For series to be linked with the Cross-study linking tool, the following conditions must be satisfied:

  • Series must be considered coplanar. Generally they must be of the same view: axial series linked with axials, sagittals with sagittals, and coronals with coronals.

  • Volumetric series may be linked only to other volumetric series.

  • Non-volumetric series may be linked only to other non-volumetric series.
