IMPAX 6.5.1 Client Knowledge Base: Extended > Communicating with other users
Using the Instant Messaging feature, you can easily connect with colleagues to discuss studies.
![]() | Tip: In an integrated TalkStation system, if using the Instant Messaging functionality, move the Chat dialog to the Image area. If you do not, depending on the size and location of the TalkStation window, the Chat dialog might be hidden by the TalkStation window. |
To send an instant message
From the IMPAX menu bar, click the Instant Messaging menu
and click Show contact list.
or
From a worklist or search results, right-click a patient and click Share.
or
From the Image area top toolbar, click Share
.
The Instant messaging - contact list dialog opens. If initiating an instant message from a worklist or search results, the study for the patient you selected automatically opens in the Image area.
Users associated with that study (radiologist, technologist, referring physician, or requesting physician) and are available to chat are listed at the top of the contact list. However, the displayed role might not be the expected role for that user. For example, user A is the Technologist who created the images for a study and is therefore associated to the study as a Technologist. When another user loads that study and opens the contact list, user A's name and the role of Technologist appears even if at that time of day user A is logged into the system as an Administrator.
![]() | Note: If a user name does not match any known names in IMPAX, the user name is not listed at the top of the contact list even though the user is associated with a particular study. For example, in IMPAX the user name for a technologist is John Doe but at the modality the user name is entered as J. Doe. This name format is not listed in the Alternate Names field of the Users and Roles profile for John Doe. Therefore, John Doe is not listed at the top of the contact list for any study he is associated with. |
To select the user you want to contact, in the Instant messaging - contact list dialog, double-click the user's name to open the Chat dialog.
You can also right-click the user name and select Chat.
In the <Enter message> textbox of the Chat dialog, type your message.
Each message can contain a maximum of 2000 characters.
Press Enter or click Send.
When a user's status changes, IMPAX displays a message indicating the change in the Chat dialog.
The instant messaging history is not stored. It only exists while the Chat dialog is open. Once the dialog is closed, the content is gone and cannot be retrieved.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each message you want to send to the same user.
To share the study you are currently viewing, click Share study.
![]() | Note: The Share study button in the Chat dialog becomes active when images are view in the Image area. |
Once the user you are communicating with accepts the study, the study is automatically displayed in the user's Image area.
Users working on resolving conflicts cannot initiate or answer instant messages, or share studies as long as conflicts still remain. In addition, study access rules apply when accepting study share requests. Receivers with limited access to studies (for example, clinicians with access to reported or approved studies only) cannot view studies they do not have permission to. To determine if the user has permission, check the Study-based > View Images permission.
To change the font size, click Increase
