Assigning permissions from other roles

You can copy permissions as a link from one role in a branch of the role hierarchy to another. For example, you can copy a permission as a link from the Radiology role to the Cardiology role. Changing either the original permission or any one linked copy of the permission changes all linked copies.

To assign permissions from other roles

  1. From the Configure drawer menu Configure drawer menu, select Users and Roles.

  2. In the navigation pane, select the role.

  3. In the details pane, expand the Permissions bar.

  4. Depending on the type of permission to copy, switch to the General or Study-Based tab.

  5. In the For permission list, right-click the permission to copy and select Copy.

  6. In the navigation pane, select the role to paste the permission to.

Because permissions are inherited, copying a permission to a sub-role of the selected role is unnecessary unless you want to use that copied version as a starting point to create a new permission. To read more about inheriting permissions, refer to Permissions: Workflow applications.

  7. In the details pane, in the For permission list, right-click and select Paste Link.

The permission is copied as a link. The changes are saved automatically when you switch context.

The name of linked permission is underlined in the For permission list. To view the details pane of another role the permission is linked to, in the For permission list, right-click the name of the permission and select Linking applies to > role name.
