Copying a permission is useful when you want to use a permission as a template that you can copy, rename, then edit. Copying and pasting a permission into the same role or into a role that already inherits the same permission creates a true copy of the permission instead of a creating a linked copy. For example, you can copy "permission 1" from St. Mary's to Paediatrics as a true copy:
St. Mary's -- permission 1
Radiology -- permission 1 + permission 2
Paediatrics -- permission 1 + permission 2 + permission 3 + copy of permission 1
To create permissions based on existing versions
If using a permission from a different branch in the hierarchy, copy the permission from a role in that branch and paste it as a link into the role.
In the For permission list, right-click the permission and select Copy.
In the same role, or in a another role in the same branch, in the For permission list, right-click and select Paste.
A copy of the permission is created.
If required, delete the permission pasted as a link during step 1.
The changes are saved automatically when you switch context.
