IMPAX 6.5.1 Client Knowledge Base: Extended > Administering IMPAX > Configuring image display > Retrieving JPEG or wavelet images
Once you have decided which groups of users should have access to wavelet images only, you can configure IMPAX accordingly. First, use impersonation to ensure that those users are viewing wavelet images. Then set permissions to prevent the users from switching to original images.
![]() | Note: To use wavelet images, a Curator must be installed and configured as part of the IMPAX cluster. Refer to the Curator and CD Export Server Installation Guide. |
To set users to view wavelet images by default
If setting preferences for other users, impersonate the user or role.
On the List drawer, next to the user ID, click the
menu.
Ensure that Show Web Images is selected.
To end the impersonation, click Done.
To prevent users from switching to original images
From the Configure drawer menu
, select Users and Roles.
In the navigation pane, select the role to configure.
In the details pane, expand the Permissions bar.
Create a permission or edit an existing permission for that role.
From the Assign operations from list, select PACS Client.
Under General, clear the Set Default Image Type operation.
This hides the Show Web Images preference in the menu so that the user cannot search for original images.
The changes are saved automatically when you switch context. By default, the users in this role can view only wavelet images; however, if they have the permissions to do so, they have the option to manually retrieve the original images.
![]() | Tip: For radiologists and other users who require the ability to switch between viewing original and wavelet images, ensure that their permissions include the following General operations: Set Default Image Type and Image Area Tools > View Original Images. |
