By default, images in an image cache do not have lossy compression applied. You can enable lossy compression on certain station caches as needed, such as when the station has a slow connection, or to reduce the size of images from certain modalities. In doing so, you can choose to use lossy JPEG or Mitra Wavelet format for compression.
By selecting the appropriate Compressor and Compressor Scheduler settings, you can also ensure that images are not lossy compressed until they meet certain criteria, such as minimum age. You can also set whether images are lossy compressed in the archive.
To enable compression on station image cache
On the Setup tab, click Network Management. ![]()
Switch to the Image tab.
From the list at the bottom of the manager, select the station on which to enable compression.
Only stations with image caches can have compression enabled. Image caches are configured in the Cache Manager.
Select the Compression checkbox.
From the Compression Type list, select LOSSY JPEG or MITRA LOSSY WAVELET.
If required, configure the compression ratios for the station cache.
