IMPAX 6.5.1 Server Knowledge Base home > Configuring IMPAX Server with Administration Tools > Source Manager > Customizing field mappings to extract information from images
If customized mappings are required for patient or study attributes, use the Field Mappings tab to modify existing mappings or to create mappings.
For example, when the system receives an image, it uses the patient ID and accession number contained in the image to query the RIS for all available information about the image. For most RISs and modalities, the default field mappings are sufficient to correctly extract the patient ID and accession number from the image. However, if necessary, these field mappings can be customized to accommodate the syntax used by a particular modality or RIS.
