Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai patient names can be rendered using different types of character sets: plain text, single-byte, phonetic, or ideographic characters. You can display different versions of names in the Text area, but in the Image area, only one format can be displayed by default.
To define which East Asian characters are used for patient names in the Image area
From the Configure drawer menu
, select Preferences.

Or, from the List or Configure area bar, click the User ID menu
and select Preferences.
If in the Configure area, in the navigation pane, select a role or user.
In the details pane, expand the Image Area bar.
Switch to the Patient Data Format tab.
Click the option representing the type of characters to use: Plain text (ASCII), Single-byte, Phonetic, or Ideographic.
The Image area navigation bar displays patient names in the selected character sets. To see the names in other character sets, configure the Text area to display patient names in those formats. The user can then view the names in Image area by placing the pointer over a patient tab in the bottom bar.
If in the Configure area, the changes are saved automatically when you switch context.
