Enhancing image edges

Use the Image Enhancement tool to accentuate the difference between a pixel value and a weighted average of the surrounding pixels. The result is a crisper, enhanced image edge.

To enhance image edges

  1. From the Image area context or top toolbar, click Image Enhancement. Image Enhancement

    or

    If using the context toolbar text menu (Ctrl + right-click), select AdvancedImage Enhancement.

  2. If required, change the scope of image enhancement to image, series, or study.

  3. In the Image Enhancement dialog, select a Strength: None, Low, Medium, or High.

    Strength describes the degree of sharpening. The greater the strength, the more accentuated the edge.

  4. Select a Kernel: 3x3 Sharpen, 5x5 Sharpen, or 3x3 Smooth.

    Kernel size determines the pixel value average of the surrounding pixels.

  5. Click the image to enhance.

    The selected strength and kernel settings are applied.

  6. Repeat steps 3–5 until the image display is as you want it.

  7. To close the dialog, click Close.
