Study retrieval symbols


The first column in any worklist or search results list contains a series of Open with Images Open with Images buttons. If studies must be retrieved from different sources before they can be displayed in the Image area, other symbols appear instead, as noted below.

When a study is being retrieved, the retrieve symbol includes a small icon to indicate retrieval is in progress; for example, Retrieving images from nearline storage.

Symbol Name Description
Open with Images Open with Images The images are available in the system and can immediately be opened into the Image area by clicking the button.
Retrieve images from nearline storage Retrieve images from nearline storage The images are currently in some form of nearline storage, such as an HSM (hierarchical storage management) system.
Retrieve images from offline storage Retrieve images from offline storage The images are currently in some form of offline media, such as DVD or tape.
Retrieve images from external PACS Retrieve images from external PACS The images are in a different PACS.
Retrieve web versions of images Retrieve web versions of images The images must be converted to web versions for viewing. If you have permission to do so, you can switch to viewing full-fidelity images instead.
Unavailable Unavailable The images for this study are unavailable. They may be archived at this time, or you may not have permission to retrieve them. Please contact your PACS Administrator.
Unsupported DICOM objects Unsupported DICOM objects The images include unsupported DICOM objects. The images can be opened, but the unsupported objects are omitted.
