Exporting study images as an AVI file

You can export one image, selected images, one series, selected series, or an entire study as an AVI format file. AVI files can be played as animations using standard Windows software.

Tip

Tip:

While you can export a single image as an AVI, because AVIs are used to play a set of images in succession, we recommend that you select more than one image, or a series or study, to export as AVI.

To export study images as an AVI file

  1. Optionally, in the Image area, use the Image Selection tool to select the images to export.

  2. Right-click an image to include in the export.

  3. From the context menu, select ExportStudy, Series, Image, or Selected Images.

  4. To display AVI options in the Export Images dialog, under Export Options, click AVI.

  5. Under Frame Size, select 256 x 256, 512 x 512, or 1024 x 1024.

The higher the number, the better the quality; however, better quality also increases file size.

  6. Select a Frame Rate value between 1 and 24.

The frame rate defines how many images are displayed per second. The higher the frame rate, the smoother the video playback appears.

  7. To change the Path, click Browse. In the Browse For Folder dialog, browse to or create the location to save the AVI to, then click OK.

The selected export location is saved as the default for future AVI exports.

  8. To use a different file name than the one assigned by default, type the new name in the Path field, after the directory path.

  9. Click OK.

  10. In the Video Compression dialog, from the Compressor list, select the AVI format to use.

The list is populated based on the formats available on your system. However, not all formats are guaranteed to work.

  11. If the option is enabled, set the Compression Quality to a value between 1 and 100.

The higher the number, the better the quality but the bigger the file size. Not all formats allow you to set quality options.

  12. Optionally, if enabled, click Configure and set other format options.

Not all formats have other options.

  13. Click OK.

As long as the selected format is supported, a progress bar appears indicating the progress as the images, series, or study are converted to AVI format and saved to the selected location as one file. To cancel the export, click Cancel.

  14. To close the Export Images dialog, click OK.
