The resolution at which a modality scans a study image is usually smaller than the resolution at which it is printed. Magnification types (also called interpolation) are used to convert images from modality resolution to print resolution. This conversion affects the sharpness of the printed image.
When adding a printer or copying properties to a new printer, you can select one or more magnification types to be available to the printer. When editing a printer's configuration, you can change which magnification types are available.
To select the available magnification factors for a printer
Add a printer or select a printer to copy, enter information in the first four screens and click Next until you reach the Magnification screen.
or
Select a printer to edit and switch to the Magnification tab
Under Magnification (Interpolation), select the checkboxes of the magnification types to make available.
Cubic is most often selected, as it produces the closest match to an analog CRT image. Bilinear is another common option. Replicate is rarely used, because it produces a very pixilated image.
