IMPAX 6.5.1 Client Knowledge Base: Extended > Administering IMPAX > Configuring printers and printing options
To support film printing, you must perform many print configuration tasks, such as defining default printing behavior, adding individual DICOM printers, defining various print presets for printers, defining composite layouts for paper and film printing, and setting print privileges.
1. Setting up paper printing: Workflow
Paper printing from the IMPAX Client is configured through standard Windows features on the local computer.
You must define printer properties when adding an individual printer to the cluster. Properties includes options such as defining the printable area, film size and type, smoothing, and color support. Default values are provided.
3. Defining default printing behavior
Some print options apply system-wide: the printed date format and the handling of mixed color and grayscale print jobs. The default color and grayscale printers is also set at the system level, but can be overridden for individual users.
4. Defining printing permissions
To allow users to define and print composite layouts, print studies, or print to paper, you must assign them the print operations in their permissions. These permissions are defined for specific roles, and then inherited by the users in those roles.
5. Defining preset printer properties for a modality
The purpose of a print preset is to optimize the printed images for display on a light box. It defines which of the available properties are applied to a particular print job and applies other values, such as orientation, density, and borders. You can configure one or more print presets for each printer. You can make these presets available to all users in the enterprise or assign them to specific users. Defaults are not provided.
6. Defining Composite Layout templates for printing
The Composite Layout print feature is used to print selected images and text in a custom layout. The images may be from different acquisition stations and modalities. Before this feature can be used, you must create Composite Layout print templates with particular page size, orientation, and grid properties. Composite Layouts are not dependent on a particular printer, but a printer must be available that supports the defined size and orientation. All Composite Layout print templates are available site-wide.
