Adding free-text study comments

Study comments are a free-text record that allow communication both within the radiology department and with other departments. For example, emergency (ER) physicians can make a preliminary diagnosis (or wet read) on a study to continue patient care. To communicate this diagnosis to radiology, the ER physician can use study comments. The comments are stored as a permanent part of the medical record.

Note:

Note:

You cannot use both text and voice comments in the same study comment.

To add free-text study comments

  1. Display the Text area for the study of interest.

  2. Scroll to the Report panel.

  3. If not visible, switch to the Study Comments tab.

The Use Text/Use Voice Comment option is a persistent setting. Therefore, if voice comments were the previous item created, you must click Use Text to add a text-based study comment.

  4. In the text box, type a comment.

  5. To make the study comment private, click Make Private.

A *Private* tag is displayed beside the date. Another way to determine if a study comment is private or not is if the toggle indicates Make Public, the study comment is already marked as private.

Private study comments are available at the role level, not the individual level. The Private Study Comments operation must be enabled for users of the role to see the comments.

  6. Click Save.

The comment is added with your name, role, and the date and time you added the study comment.

If another user is viewing the same study that you just added the study comment to, the study comment header inverses color to indicate the change.

Note:

Note:

Study comments (including text, voice comments, xml tags, and any additional information such as the date) for a study can contain up to 10,240 characters. If the study comments exceed the character limit, they are truncated.
