IMPAX 6.5.1 Application Server Knowledge Base > Managing RIS connections and report sources

Report source types: Reference

The Business Services Configuration Tool supports four types of report sources. The following table describes each report source type.

Report source type Description
Local IMPAX RIS The primary IMPAX RIS in the IMPAX cluster, where Clients can access patient, order, study, and report information. Only one Local IMPAX RIS can be configured in the IMPAX cluster at one time.
Remote IMPAX RIS An secondary IMPAX RIS installed on a server or Application Server in the cluster. A second IMPAX RIS installed on a single Application Server is also considered a remote IMPAX RIS. The Application Server connects to the remote IMPAX RIS through HTTP connections and web service calls. A remote IMPAX RIS populates the IMPAX Client Text area with the information available in the DICOM header of the images.
Connectivity Manager Queryable RIS A RIS connected to IMPAX through Connectivity Manager for accessing reports. A queryable RIS is a long-term repository for reports and supports queries for reports and orders using HL7 communication.
Connectivity Manager Non-Queryable RIS A non-queryable RIS supports only one-way communication. It sends HL7 messages for orders and reports to the Connectivity Manager. The Connectivity Manager parses the HL7 messages and sends them to the IMPAX database for storage. When IMPAX requests a report from a non-queryable RIS, it actually retrieves the report from its own database.
