Issue
IMPAX is rejecting images. The exception generated is EXCEPTION_SUBMIT_IMAGE_FAIL and the error message is:
Error -- this object for this study already exists within
Impax. Will discard this instance of the object.
Details
Previous versions of IMPAX accepted images that were already in IMPAX. The new image would then overwrite the existing image in that Network Gateway’s cache, causing several problems:
The various caches in the system may have had different copies of the image, so radiologists may have been viewing different versions of an image.
If the image had already been archived, as the cache was cleared, the new image would be deleted without being archived. If the new image had been used in a radiologist report, this could cause problems if the report or series was viewed again because the old image would be retrieved from the archive.
By default, IMPAX no longer accepts duplicate images for a study. You can configure IMPAX's response when rejecting duplicate images for a study or you can configure IMPAX to accept the duplicate images.
Solution
To configure how IMPAX handles the exception caused by the duplicate images, refer to Configuring how IMPAX rejects duplicate SOP Instance UIDs for the same study.
To configure IMPAX to accept duplicate images for a study, refer to Configuring how IMPAX rejects duplicate SOP Instance UIDs for the same study.
![]() | CAUTION! We do not recommend configuring IMPAX to accept duplicate images for a study, as this may lead to different caches having different copies of an image and radiologists may view different versions or attach different versions to a report. |
