Understanding what modalities a user can view

IMPAX includes support for certain modalities by default. To configure more, use the Enumerated Values Manager in the IMPAX Administration Tools.

Just because a modality is supported by IMPAX or has been added through the Administration Tools does not necessarily mean that every IMPAX user can view studies from that modality, however. Access to modalities can also be restricted through licensing and permissions.

Licensing

The Entry-Level Radiologist license restricts access to studies from certain modalities. CT access, MR access, and CR / DR / US access are each available as separate options for this license. (Other licenses include access to all modalities.)

Permissions

The General operation called Modality defines what modalities users in a role can access. If a permission includes the Modality > View All operation, then users with that permission can view studies from any modality (except those restricted by license). But a permission could omit the Modality > View All operation and only include specific modality operations (such as View CR, View CT, and View MR). In that case, users are restricted to viewing and configuring studies from those modalities.

To see what modalities are available to them, a user can select HelpAbout IMPAX. The About dialog includes a listing of supported modalities, taking into account the effect of both licensing and permissions.
