Changing the data range for window leveling

When authenticating with a smart card, impersonation is not available.

Window leveling is a way of changing window center and window width values, affecting the brightness and contrast of the image. The range of values that can be used can either be based on the image file's header information or on the maximum and minimum pixel values in the image. Using the pixel values provides maximum sensitivity for window leveling.

To change the data range for window leveling

  1. If setting preferences for other users, impersonate the user or role.

  2. Press F12 or, from the Image area top toolbar, click Customize.

  3. In the Customize dialog, switch to the Modality Preferences tab.

  4. Select the Modality and Body Part (if available) to define the data range for.

  5. Under Startup Defaults, to base window leveling on actual pixel values, select the Window level with a dynamic range checkbox. To base it on the image file's header information, clear the Window level with a dynamic range checkbox.

If dynamic range is selected for CT images, scouts have an applied preset of W 1024: L 0.

  6. Click Apply.

  7. Repeat steps 4–6 for other modalities.

  8. To save the changes and close the Customize dialog, click OK.
