Levels of DICOM validation

IMPAX can be configured for different levels of DICOM validation. DICOM validation is the process that checks the structure of DICOM objects transmitted to and stored on IMPAX. IMPAX offers three validation levels:

Level Description
NONE IMPAX does not perform a DICOM validation of the incoming data. When using this validation level, the data may be so severely corrupted that it cannot be properly viewed, printed, or stored. You receive no on-screen warning that a problem exists.
FAIL IMPAX rejects studies that are not in strict compliance with DICOM standards. A fail validation level may leave you in the opposite situation where IMPAX rejects studies, even if minor problems occur.
WARN IMPAX checks the DICOM but accepts studies that have failed DICOM validation. Warn level DICOM validation provides an on-screen message if problems are detected.

Use the Capabilities tab in the Network Manager to set each station's validation levels. Consider carefully the security and validation at the Network Gateway and Archives, as these are points of contact with the DICOM world outside of IMPAX. If you are just beginning to push studies from the modalities into the Network Gateway, set the validation levels to Warn.
