Configuring Oracle Data Guard using cold backup

In configuring Oracle Data Guard, the second task is to back up and restore the primary database. You can do this either by using RMAN or through a cold backup and restore, as described in the following topics. Large sites may find the cold backup and restore approach is faster than using RMAN.

Note:

Note:

We recommend three times the database size for backup allocation.

The following tasks must be performed:

  1. Run the Oracle Data Guard configuration on the primary server.

  2. Start the public listener.

  3. Run the Oracle Data Guard configuration on the standby server.

  4. For Solaris servers only: Share the primary Flashback and database areas.

  5. Restore the database on the standby server.

  6. Complete the Data Guard configuration by linking the two servers.
