IMPAX 6.5.1 Client Knowledge Base: Extended > Administering IMPAX > Managing roles and users > Mapping existing groups or users into IMPAX roles and users
If your site has an enterprise LDAP system, the users are generally organized into groups in that system. You can map an entire group from this LDAP system to an IMPAX role. This method is most useful for groups of users that do not require individual configurations. For example, if the LDAP server has a Physicians group, you could map this to a Clinicians role in IMPAX. When mapping a group to a role, the users in the group do not automatically appear under the role in IMPAX. When a user first logs into IMPAX, he or she is then added that role, and he or she inherits all of the licensing, permissions, and preferences you have defined for that role.
To map enterprise LDAP groups to IMPAX roles
From the Configure drawer menu
, select Users and Roles.
In the navigation pane, select a role.
In the details pane, expand the Role bar.
On the Mapping tab, log into the enterprise LDAP server.
The information for the LDAP server is displayed, with the Group View option selected.
If required, type the name of the group to map and click Search Enterprise.
From the list of displayed LDAP groups, select the one to map to the selected role.
Click Apply.
The LDAP group is mapped to the IMPAX role and the resulting mapping is displayed in the roleName is mapped to list. The changes are saved automatically when you switch context.
![]() | Note: If the role name contains invalid characters (one of = + < > # ; \), a validation error appears when mapping the role. |
