The Image area top and context toolbars include many tools that can be used when viewing study images. To apply any of these tools, do the following:

| Activate a tool | Click the related button or text command in the top or context toolbar. The pointer usually changes shape when a tool is active. |
| Start a tool action | Varies, but often initiated by clicking on the image to modify. |
| Complete a tool action | Varies, but often completed by right-clicking. |
| Deactivate a tool and activate the base tool | Right-click any image in the Image area. |
