A print preset defines exactly what options are applied to a print job. A print preset is meant to optimize the printed images for display on a light box. Defining print presets makes it easier for users to produce good-quality film prints, reducing the risk of film being wasted.
Print preset creation
Print presets are typically defined as part of configuring a new printer. Some preset options are constrained by the general properties defined for a printer. For example, if the printer properties for film size are defined as 8x10 and 14x17, then both these sizes become available as options when defining a preset for that printer.
For each printer, you can define one or more presets for printing studies from each modality or acquisition station, and specify one as the default in each case. Defined presets can be made available throughout the enterprise (system preset) or be assigned to individual users.
Print preset application
IMPAX does not include default presets for each printer, but does include a system preset called DEFAULT DEFAULT. You can edit the properties of the DEFAULT DEFAULT system preset, but you cannot delete it. This preset is applied in cases where no other user or system preset can be used.
When a print request is generated, the IMPAX system applies the preset that best matches the request. For example (somewhat simplified):
If a user-specific preset is available for the acquisition station or modality, it is used on the default or other available printer.
Otherwise, if a system preset is available for the station or modality, it is used on the default or other available printer.
If no preset has been defined for the station or modality, any applicable user-specific preset for the default or other printer is used.
Otherwise, the user's default print preset is used, if applicable.
If not applicable, any default preset that will work is applied.
Finally, the DEFAULT DEFAULT system preset is used.
If the print job contains a mix of images or series from different studies, the first image or series in the set is used to determine the best printer and preset to use for all studies in the request.
