Emergency study workflow: 1. Pre-acquisition

The pre-acquisition phase begins when the patient visits the hospital emergency room and the emergency room physician determines a radiological exam is required to diagnose the patient. It ends when the order is scheduled with the radiology department.


Pre-Acquisition phase of an emergency study

1. The patient goes to the hospital

The patient arrives at the hospital emergency room with a head injury.

2. The receptionist checks in the patient

The receptionist takes the patient’s information and enters it into the Hospital Information System (HIS).

3. The emergency room physician orders an CT head exam

The emergency room physician examines the patient’s injury and determines that a CT head exam is required.

4. The radiology department schedules the order

The order is placed, filled, and scheduled using a Radiology Information System (RIS).
