The Audio Wizard is a tool to calibrate the SpeechMike. This tool sets the recording volume, the playback volume, and the silence detection level. The first time you start a dictation on a workstation, you must run the Audio Wizard.
![]() | Tip: We recommend periodically running the Audio Wizard as background noises and input volume might change. |
To run the Audio Wizard
In the details pane, expand the Text area bar.
In the Report panel, click the Audio Wizard button. ![]()
To adjust the playback volume, from the Audio Wizard, click Start Test and use the slider.
When you find a suitable volume, click Stop Test.
Click Next.
Click Start Recording and read the text provided aloud until a beep is heard.
The text may need to be read aloud twice.
Click Finish.
During dictation, SpeechMagic measures the quality of the input sound and checks if it fits the needs of speech recognition. The measured parameters are:
Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)—the ratio between the strength of a signal and the background noise.
Signal level—the input volume of the sound which should be recognized.
Clipping ratio—the proportion (as a percentage) of the recording which was rejected for recognition due to excessive volume level.
On the IMPAX Client, the dictating user is notified if the audio quality is consistently unacceptable. The IMPAX RIS parameter SPEECH.INTERACTIVE_AUDIOQUALITY defines the number of low quality events required before a warning is given to the user. If the option Do not ask this question again is selected, this warning is not presented during the remainder of the login session.
