Troubleshooting: Instant Messaging status changes to Unavailable

Issue

My Instant Messaging status has changed to Unavailable.

Details

Moving your workstation into another station container causes the Instant Messaging status to change to Unavailable.

When you move your station container, you change your station's Distinguished Name (DN). When you initially register with the messaging system in ADAM/AD LDS, your station DN contains your qualified station (including container). When this changes, you break the association between your previous station/session, and your current one.

Solution

Manually change your Instant Messaging status.
