Troubleshooting: IMPAX Client crashes on login and receives a GetProcesses exception

Issue

IMPAX Client crashes every time users log into a workstation. The following exception is written in the client.log:

ERROR 2009-03-27 09:41:27,757 [MainThread] AgfaHC.Pacs.Application.ImpaxClient [] - HandleUnhandledException(): Unhandled exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Process performance counter is disabled, so the requested operation cannot be performed.

Solution

After the operating system is installed, either the performance counters are disabled or the Performance Counter Library is corrupt. To check if the performance counters are disabled and to enable them, follow the steps described in the following article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q248993

If the Performance Counter Library is corrupt, solve the problem by rebuilding the Performance Counter Library values. Details on the procedure can be found on the MS Help and Support site:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300956

Optionally, you can replace the two corrupt files with valid files. Ask Agfa Support to provide the correct files to be replaced. The files can also be found on Internet but we advise against downloading them from unsecured sites.
