SCP and SCU workflows

At its simplest, a workflow is a sequence of actions. The following two workflows provide a high-level understanding of how the Network Gateway handles image storage and query/retrieve.

Image Storage Workflow

Modality (SCU) to Network Gateway (SCP)

  1. The modality has ultrasound images that it wants to store.

  2. The SCU sends a C-STORE request to the Network Gateway asking if it can store the ultrasound images.

  3. The SCP process accepts the storage request.

Query/Retrieve Workflow

Modality (SCU) to Network Gateway (SCP ) flow

  1. The modality wants to retrieve an ultrasound image. It creates a SCU Query/Retrieve request.

  2. The SCU sends a C-FIND request for the image and a C-MOVE request for images from the C-FIND results.

  3. The SCP process receives the request, determines that it supports that service, and agrees to look for the images.

  4. The Network Gateway SCP signals its SCU that it must send some images.

  5. A C-STORE request is generated by the Network Gateway to respond to the C-MOVE request.

  6. The SCP process on the modality accepts the storage request.
