When planning the structure of your database, use a small number of large files (with a maximum size of 2 GB) instead of a large number of small files. You should also size database files to 2 GB at the outset, instead of growing the files in smaller increments. This reduces the risk of fragmentation and optimizes performance.
The Database Configurator tool is an Excel spreadsheet which can be used to determine the size of various Oracle database partitions, based on estimated or initial exam volume and anticipated growth for the next five years.
The Database Configurator tool is available on Mednet at the following location: http://ftp.agfa.be/HE/software/PACS/3rd_Party_Solutions/Oracle/Software/database_configurator/.
