IMPAX 6.5.1 Client Knowledge Base: Extended > Reading studies > Interpreting breast images
The Image Scale to Fit tool scales images so that the breast fills the available viewport space. When applied, all images are displayed as large as possible, without cutting off any anatomical content. Images are not only scaled but they are also panned out and registered so that the chest walls are fully visible, regardless of laterality or patient orientation.
When scaling images to fit the viewport, note the following:
If scaling fails on one or more images in a study, the Image Scale to Fit button is disabled. Situations that might cause scaling to fail include certain views where hardware (for example, the magnification platform) is in the image.
Grayscale Softcopy Presentation States (GSPS) define how referenced images are presented during display. Image Scale to Fit display mode cannot alter the intended presentation state defined by a GSPS.
While all images display at the same physical size, they may not appear at true life physical size. Image Scale to Fit is not a true size display mode.
The Magnify/Pan, Reset, and Undo tools restore the original Image Scale to Fit magnification when enabled and restores the original un-scaled magnification to all images.
CAD objects can be applied appropriately after the breast is sized to fit to viewport.
![]() | CAUTION! Do not use the Image Scale to Fit wizard to automatically apply the scaling when viewing breast images. You must first view the images unscaled to recognize if any portion of the images is not in view due to overscaling when the Image Scale to Fit tool is applied . Overscaling can occur due to poor exposure and insufficient image contrast. Additionally, situations where prior images are the same size as current studies but where the prior study physical breast size is significantly larger than those in the current study can cause it to overscale. |
To scale breast images to fit the viewport
From the Image area top toolbar, click Image Scale to Fit
.
Breast images are scaled to fit the viewport and remain scaled when navigating through images.
To restore images to their original size, click Image Scale to Fit
so the button is unselected.
The button is greyed out and the images are no longer scaled to fit the viewport.
![]() | Note: Image Scale to Fit may not have a noticeable effect when applied to 2x2 Comparative Review Mode views. Other views, like the 1x2 Comparative Review Mode views exhibit a more noticeable change due to the aspect ratio of the image areas. |
