The reporting phase occurs when the radiologist views the study images, then reports the findings.
9. The radiologist interprets the STAT study
The STAT, or emergency, study appears in the worklist at the radiologist's display station. The study is marked as STAT, so that the radiologist reads it immediately.
The radiologist interprets the study, and often provides a preliminary verbal report directly to the emergency room physician. After the verbal report, the radiologist creates an official report using a dictation system, such as a voice recognition system. The radiologist dictates and, eventually, approves the report. The report is sent to the Radiology Information System (RIS) for storage, even though the ER doctor has already received a verbal interpretation of the study.
