IMPAX 6.5.1 Client Knowledge Base: Extended > Dictating and reviewing reports
When authenticating with a smart card, any system connected to IMPAX through the Context Server must also be able to authenticate with a smart card.
With a “traditional” reporting system, radiologists examine study images on film or on a workstation and record their comments into a tape device. The recordings are sent to transcriptionists to type. Radiologists review the typed report and note any needed corrections. When reports are correct, radiologists approve them. The reports can then be sent to the requesting physicians and others who need to see them.
When a computer-assisted, speech-enabled reporting application is integrated with IMPAX, radiologists can launch the reporting program from IMPAX. They speak into a microphone, SpeechMike, or headset that is connected to the Client workstation, and their speech is converted to written text in the reporting application. The report can then be reviewed, corrected, and signed off in the reporting application. Once signed off, it can be distributed throughout the enterprise. While some initial training is required, ultimately this reporting method is more efficient.
Three integrated reporting methods are available with IMPAX: TalkStation, IMPAX Reporting, and serial dictation using Lanier or RTAS. The Context Server desktop integration can be used to integrate IMPAX with other reporting systems. While some additional features are available with TalkStation and IMPAX Reporting, the workflow is essentially the same for any integrated reporting system.
