Understanding how patient IDs are handled in a multiple cluster environment

When IMPAX retrieves information from the IMPAX RIS, patient identifiers (IDs) are used to retrieve the patient history (Text area > Study List) and patient information (Text area > study highlights).

In a multiple cluster environment, IMPAX expects globally unique patient IDs to be used. However, in the IMPAX RIS, all patient IDs are linked to a domain and the domain and patient ID are put into one identifier. Therefore, if IMPAX queried the IMPAX RIS, the patient ID might be different between the two systems causing the query to fail.

To provide IMPAX with unique patient IDs and allow successful queries, the IMPAX RIS domain patient identifiers (DPI) are prefixed or suffixed by Connectivity Manager when communicating with IMPAX, making them unique.

The IMPAX RIS TEXTAREA.MPI_PATIENT_ID_MASK parameter describes how the prefixes and suffixes are configured in the Connectivity Manager. The Text area then uses this parameter to decide how the IMPAX patient ID should be parsed when querying the IMPAX RIS.
