IMPAX 6.5.1 Client Knowledge Base: Extended > Administering IMPAX > Multiple IMPAX cluster configurations
In a hub-and-spoke model, the hub does not automatically forward new or modified data to spokes that have already retrieved study data. This means that workflow sharing is not supported in a multiple IMPAX cluster configuration that includes an IMPAX Data Center hub.
Note the following limitations on workflow sharing in a multiple cluster environment where an IMPAX Data Center is integrated with an IMPAX spoke:
IMPAX Data Center 2.0 and earlier does not maintain study status information.
When a radiologist performs a search for enterprise priors that are stored only in IMPAX Data Center 2.0 or earlier, the results are displayed in the List area with the status listed as UNKNOWN.
![]() | Note: In the IMPAX Client, the User Profile > Workflow preference allows radiologists to specify that studies with status New should be used as priors. In this case, when a spoke IMPAX system retrieves a prior study from the IMPAX Data Center, the spoke IMPAX system knows the study status and can assign a default status to the study. |
IMPAX Data Center 2.0 SU1 and later can be configured to maintain study status information.
In an enterprise-level worklist, some attributes are not properly applied when used as query constraints.
Some search fields such as body part are not standard DICOM fields and may not work on all DICOM sources in an enterprise query. When selected, these fields are denoted by a red exclamation mark.
Images are not automatically updated at spokes.
If a radiologist at a spoke IMPAX Client station adds a new image to a study retrieved from the IMPAX Data Center, the new image is not forwarded to Client stations at other spokes if these stations have already retrieved the study. To see the new images, radiologists must remove the study from the local cache and then query the IMPAX Data Center again.
Cross-cluster dictation is not possible.
If a radiologist retrieves and reports a study that was performed at a different spoke, the status is not updated at the IMPAX Data Center or on the system where the study was performed.
Approval status is not updated across spokes.
If a study is approved within a RIS system at one spoke, other spokes cannot tell that the study status has been updated.
