IMPAX 6.5.1 Application Server Knowledge Base > Managing RIS connections and report sources
One of the major requirements of integrating a hospital is connecting the hospital's information systems, PACS, and modalities. These systems often speak different languages, or protocols. PACS and modalities typically speak DICOM, while hospital information systems generally speak HL7. Many of these systems also use other protocols, such as SOAP.
Connectivity Manager is a middleware component in the integration between hospital information systems and other hospital imaging departments. Connectivity Manager also provides connectivity to modalities and IMPAX. Integration, service, and administrative personnel use the Connectivity Manager user interface, called Service Tools, to configure users and devices. They also maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot the system using Service Tools.
